The 10x Better Way to Get a Job

The 10x Better Way to Get a Job

The Tryout

A Tryout is a new way for employers to evaluate talent by offering talented professionals a chance to show what they can do.

You Know the Drill

Tryout Drills are short deliverables the company will ask you to do to complete the Tryout and be considered for the job. Drills are the essence of the Tryout. This is your chance to demonstrate your skills and abilities to the hiring manager.

Think of it this way: if you’ve applied for a job in the past by submitting your resume, the first thing that happened was your resume was screened by a person (sometimes simply by an algorithm). When this person screened your resume they made a judgement call about whether you should proceed to the next step or not. They made an assumption whether you could do the job based on your background, where you went to school, where else you've worked, etc.

Completing the Tryout doesn’t involve a resume, and that's the beauty of it. The only thing that matters is how capable you are. The Tryout Drills are your opportunity to demonstrate that capability. Go for it!

A “No Drills” Tryout.  Oh My!

Depending on the job, you may see a “No Drills” Tryout. These are more open-ended Tryouts where the company is essentially saying: “if you’re the right candidate for this job, you’ll already know what we’d want to see to demonstrate your capability and fit.”

Companies often use No Drills Tryouts for more senior- or managerial roles, but you could see them for any type of role.

A Job Description You’ll Want to Read

When was the last time you saw a job description from a company that inspired you? What about one that even gave you vague idea of what kind of work you might be doing? Anything coming to mind?

Varsidee Tryouts come with a pre-formatted job description template that employers can simply fill in. It's dead simple, and it’s going to make reading them a lot easier, and even fun.

When you read a good job description, similar to a good product advertisement or website, you should get a clear sense of what the job is all about. And while employers have long included a ”requirements” list of what they want from you, it’s high time they do a better job of answering the question “what's in it for me?”

Clarifications

Have you ever looked at a job description and been confused by it? Yeah, most of us have. In fact, far too often job descriptions do more to list what the company's requirements of your past experience are, as opposed to articulating what the job entails or why you’d want it.

Clarifications are your opportunity to ask a question directly to the hiring manager. Questions can be about anything, but they tend to be about the job description or the Tryout Drills. So if you read through the Drills and are confused about something you can ask.

Best of all, each answered Clarification is posted publicly so you can see what other candidates have asked, too.

Tryout Metrics

So you’ve looked over a Tryout and the job sounds interesting. But doing the Drills will take some real time and effort to complete. Wouldn't it be great if you could know how many other people had completed this Tryout?

Better still, wouldn't it be great if you could know how many other people the company is considering so you had an idea of how much competition there is?

Now you can do all of that.

Tryout Metrics provide necessary transparency into the company’s hiring activity before you decide to invest the necessary time and effort to complete the Tryout.

The Tryout

A Tryout is a new way for employers to evaluate talent by offering talented professionals a chance to show what they can do.

In the past, when you applied for a job online, you’d often end up waiting weeks or even months with no follow up from the company. We all know that sucks. But what if there was a new way where you could connect directly to the hiring manager and show them what you could do? What if the hiring manager promised to get back to you within 48 hours? What if you could keep track of everything that happens in realtime?

What if this changed everything?

Why Varsidee’s Tryout System is Awesome!

Faster

Hiring takes a long time because companies are trying to figure out if you can do the job. Proving you can, upfront, speeds things up. Hiring managers promise you a reply within 48 hours. How's that for quick?

Unbiased

Be considered for a job based on your demonstrated capabilities, nothing more. The days or not being considered because you lack years of experience or the right pedigree are over.

Complete Transparency

Better job descriptions, Tryout metrics, and a direct dialogue with the hiring manager make Varsidee the most transparent way to find a new role.

Better User Experience

Endlessly waiting to hear back from companies you've applied to sucks. Varsidee keeps you in the loop every step of the way.

No more “resume black hole.” Any action the hiring team takes automatically triggers a real-time status update to keep you continuously informed.

Keep an Open Dialogue

A hiring process that's moving forward features a series of interactions between the hiring team and you. At a glance, the Dialogue page produces and updates a log of everything that happens--as it happens--keeping you informed:

  • Hiring manager reviews your submission, or takes other actions
  • Messages between the hiring team and you
  • Rating of your Tryout submissions

Send the right message

It's frustrating not being able to communicate with the hiring team when you need to. Hiring teams don't reveal their contact information, so Varsidee's messaging system lets you communicate while protecting the privacy of both the hiring team and you.

This messaging lets you begin collaborating and exploring a relationship with the hiring team, even before you interview. That makes it easier for you to get a feel for what it will be like to work there, with this team. A new job is a big decision –– and anything that gives you a better feel for things makes it easier to make it.

Promises kept – with one click

All employers promise to communicate, and intend to keep their promise, but often don't because it's too difficult, so it gets pushed aside by the press of the hiring manager's primary job. Varsidee eliminates forgetfulness and delay by making it so easy to communicate with you that it's hard not to.

Hiring managers can take key actions -- view your Tryout, request a phone screen, request an interview, or take a pass -- with a single click. Each click automatically informs you.

You can take action with a single click, too. You can view a Tryout, upload a submission, or withdraw from consideration -- all with a single click, and without the awkwardness of having to figure out the right way to say it.

Here's a radical idea: getting a new job should be based on your talent and abilities, not the strength of your social network
